Squeaky New Brakes
 

I just changed the back brakes on my 1998 C230 for the first time with Pagid pads and now they squeak, although scream is a better word for it. I re-installed them and really cleaned everything, put greese on the sides of the pads and anti-sieze (copper colored) on the back but they still squeek.

Any ideas how to stop the squeeking? I've used this technique before successfully, but it didn't work this time. I'd be up for even buying new pads.

try travel at 35 and slam the brake hard five times

I might give that a try. It's cheeper and easier than replacing them.

If that doesn't work,try sanding rotor with 1200 grit sand paper.Sand in a cross hatch pattern

Check the rotor ,the inner part closest to the center of the rotor , if it has a groove it will squeek, take rotors off and machine the groove off

I tryed really sanding them and that didn't work.
I tryed getting new pads and that didn't work
I bit the bullet and bought new rotors and the did finally work, but in the process I think I know what the problem might have been. When I took the old rotors off, they were rusted to the hub, at the center. With the rotors held firmly at the center it makes them like a bell. I could prove that theory by putting them back on, I just need the motivation.

8 months ago I replaced the rotors and pads on my S550. I did the break in procedure, up to 55 and fast decel to 10 and did that 5 times.. Squeak Sqawk it was awful.. I bought aftermarket rotors and ceramic pads. Rotors were xdrilled and grooved..I just ordered new rotors and pads.. I will install them this week and hope that fixes it..

It's best to buy replacement rotors from a MB dealer. Their rotors have a protective gray primer that prevents rust. Have never had a problem with genuine MB rotors. I always use Textar brake pads that I purchase online.

I used ATE rotors I got online, and they were coated gray. I guess somebody learned cause the old ones rusted on.
