Bent Valves on 560SEL, how to fix
 

OOps, left the timing chain in too long!! :eek: Now I need to fix the left head. Never having done this on a 560, HELP! I've done head work on lots of 6's and 4's and a few Chevy v-8's. So I know the general process. And I'm hesitant to try to pull just the left head, but I also know there isn't much room around theos headers.
What can go wrong that I should watch out for?
What extras should be done while I'm in there?

Pull both and longingly kiss your checkbook. Or junkyard a good used 5.6.

This is going to be a very long, expensive project. Took me months to do just an intake reseal + rebuild on my 560 along with a chain. You always forget a part, get pissed off, find other issues that need to be repaired, etc You are better off buying a used 5.6L longblock if you are inexperienced with these V8s.

If that is not practical, just pull the motor and trans as one unit and get to work. Rebuilding it in car is just plain silly due to limited access.

You need to pull the head and inspect cylinder walls, ive seen a valve head get broken off and go right thru the side of cylinder wall, repair is not to difficult, removed intake , removed exhaust, pull head, replace valves and reseat valves seals etc, you can do 1 head only and repair but high mileage use you should do both , replaced broken plastic guide rails , roll in new chain, crimp or clip, retime engine, just basic info, get estimate or try and find good used engine
