Replacing Temperature Sensor

Forum Experts:

When replacing the fan temperature sensor (for the main fan) on my 1986 190E 2.3-16V, should I use an anti-seize material on the threads of the temperature sensor?? As you know, this sensor/switch is threaded into the head near the thermostat housing.

I have conflicting concerns about dissimilar materials (brass and aluminum) as well as heat transfer. Manuals do not cover this level of detail.

Thanks for any advice!

Use of Anti-Seize

I went ahead and removed the old Temp switch and replaced it with the new one. No sign of prior coating on the threads, so I guess that answers my question.

I had suspected the sensor was bad--the main fan did not go on until about 110-115 degrees.

It now goes on at 100 degrees like it should. This should get rid of that nasty overheating at idle/in traffic problem.

Best regards
