windshield replacement- remove monowiper?
I hit a rock on the way home or should i say, a rock hit my car. The windshield has to be replaced.
Two questions- 1. what is the ballpark cost of this replaceement job? I have no insurance for it? I am thinking $300? 2. should i remove the monowiper base myself first then let it be replaced? |
I think they can just let the arm lock in to the raised position and replace it, worse case scenario they might remove the arm, which is one bolt. No reason to pull anything beyond the arm, the pivot won't be in the way, they might pull the trim.
Can't help on cost, if you get MB glass it will probably be more than that, depends on how nit-picky you are, I'd cost it out w and w/o MB glass |
FYI

dang rocks! |
It wouldn't be a bad idea to remove the wiper and cowling. Glass guys have a habit of being generous with the glue and gluing **** that will need to come off later. Trying to remove a glued in wiper can lead to a(nother) broken windshield. DAHIK!

The monowiper assembly is a must remove job for a later W124 as the lower weatherstripping (batwing) is trapped by it.
The distance clearances from the bottom and sides are also very critical otherwise the lower trim pieces (older model) or batwing (later model) along with the wiper may not fit like it should. btw - speaking of which - does the new glass come with the plastic/metal edge piece that holds the batwing in place in later models? |
