350SL quits when hot
I have a 1972 350SL that has an annoying problem of stopping when hot and when left to cool down for a couple of hours will start and run as if nothing happened.
It appears to have to have good spark but I changed the coil anyway but this did not change anything. The fuel pump still runs and there is approx 25psi in the fuel injector rails. I took the L/H side injectors out as a complete assembly and when cranking the engine only one was working. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. |
I had something of a similar situation with my 73 450sl a couple of weeks ago on a hot day. It stalled at idle, and almost did another couple of times. It started right up though. I haven't had the problem again. Someone suggested the car was particularly sensitive to oxygenated gasoline which is sold here in Calif. through February. Were you running on oxygenated gasoline? I know there are additives that are supposed to help this.

I'm not particularly familiar with the SL, but the symptoms you describe sound like vapor lock. Are any of the fuel lines routed too close to a heat source? (exhaust, cylinder head, etc.)
