Auto dimming mirror

I am the new owner of a '97 C140 and love it. While it has 135K the basics are working great. One thing that isn't however is the inside rear view mirror. The auto dimming is "on" all of the time. The windows are tinted and vision aft is pretty bad.
I understand that there is a plastic cover that snaps off exposing a wiring connector and this will shut off the auto dim but also affect the 3 garage openers on the mirror.
Any ideas?

You see the small sensor eye in the mirror glass, you can try a small piece of electrical tape over that, should effectively keep the auto dim from working I would think.

You could also consider removing the film on the rear window. Do they let you get away with anything in CA for rear tint? Here in WI you can not go very dark with tinting, so you might be doing yourself a favor by lightening it.

WOW just looked it up, any % on most any window except the windshield, here I thought you guys were on a pretty short leash out there. Here you can only have 35% on the rear. I would recommend cutting it back to around that on your back windows. Like you already say, the vision aft gets to be pretty bad with limo tint.

You can tint any window legally except the windshield and the two front passenger windows. In this State the cops walk up to you while you remain seated. They want to see you as they approach. Most everyone in the desert areas tint all windows including most police cars. The smart people roll their front windows down immediately if they are stopped.
I will try the black tape route. Someone also said there was a connector that can be pulled.

There are a couple connectors on a 140 rear view, can't remember what does what.
