Crankcase removal
:confused:Is it possible to remove the crankcase on a W126 (1980 500SE) without pulling the engine?
|
Not sure if you mean the oil pan? Because the crankcase is generally considered the center of the engine block, not really a removeable part, it is the engine block, so of course the engine is removed to remove it.

On the 500 there is a small oil pan that is easy to remove in the car. Then there is an aluminum pan that runs from the front of the engine to the back of the engine. I don't know if it can be done in the car but if it can, it won't be easy. Why do you want to remove it?

PS
I mean the oil pan and mine is a 1 piece casting that is cracked on the bottom and leaking.
