Air Filter Replacement: How Long

Everyone seemed to pretty quick to replace engine oil ,but how long do you keep your air filter before changing.
I've got three years and 20K on my current one living in So. Cal.

My Haynes manual says to replace every 10,000 miles, but I've got about 18,000 on mine. I just blew out the dust with air pressure, and it doesn't seem too bad.

Shake it, bang it ... but don't use air pressure to clean air filters, you'll blow a hole in the fabric! At least that's what I was taught, but then again, they were bulldozers and daily maintenance was designed to be idiot proof. Didn't help much!

Good luck.

Every 10k

I change my air filter every third oil change(3000 miles). They are cheap, about $10, and do you have any idea how much dirty, abrasive air flows through the engine in 10k of driving ? My two cents.

If you live in a dry climate you need to change it more often. In a damp climate, there is much less dust in the air.

Have a great day,

I change mine every 30k miles, even though the maintenance book calls for it to be changed every 60k miles! But I feel that is too long to wait.
