Driver's side mirror - 2005 C240
Some clown came too close yesterday and wacked the mirror, knocking the glass free (hanging from the wires). Everything (glass, mounting clips, etc) seems to be intact. I replaced the mirror frame assembly(reused the motor, glass & housing) a year ago and remember clipping the glass in place being a snap; but the housing was off. Anyone have a link to the removal process, or instructions as to how to remove the housing? If I push the assembly forward there is a flat metal clip (bent toward the opening; not sure it should be bent - could be a result of last years impact) toward the bottom but it doesn't want to move and I hesitate to force, and break, anything unnecessarily. Search results haven't turned up anything relevant.
Thanks, Jim |
The mirror glass can be installed with the housing in place but it's a PITA. To remove the housing just fold it back and take a look in there. You'll see a silver colored spring-clip. You can use a screw-driver to depress the clip and the housing will slide off easily. :)

Thank you!
I believe that the spring clip you reference is the clip I see with the mirror folded toward the front. I will get back to it a bit later today when (if) it warms up some. It is currently hovering around zero degrees (f), a bit chilly in our unheated garage.
Thanks again, Jim |
