compatible rear diff for 90 4matic
what other chassis/years would have a compatible rear diff.mine is noisy.has been for sometime:confused:
|
If you want to continue using the 4Matic the unfortunate answer is None. Only the 300TE 4Matic came with the 3.29:1 ratio. That is what is in the front, so if you change the rear you'll probably get some errors. I'm actually not sure how the computer would handle that.
That being said, if I was hard pressed to use something I would use a non-4Matic TE rear-end with a 3.28:1 ratio. The 4Matic sedans have a 3.07:1. |

ill definately try a different oil first.it has been changed frequently since the whine first appeared about 7 years ago.so i know there is oil in there but the whining is troubling.is this diff living on borrowed time?:)
|
One other consideration I failed to mention earlier is that any replacement must have ASR clutches to work with 4Matic and fit your rear axles.

I have a 3.29 locking rear diff that I pulled out of my 90 TE 4-Matic to swap in 3.07s. Its got a lot of miles but wasn't noisey. I'll make you a good deal on it but shipping will be $$$ from Denver. PM me if interested.

Here is the list from MB.
http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/12264/disc_2/Program/Chassis/rearaxle/function185.pdf I've been getting whine from my car for years. I've changed fluids and had some change in noise (less). Tires seem to make a difference too. |
good info thanks:)

An ASD diff is a limited slip differential. Use MB 001 989 17 03 10 fluid for limited slip. |
