Consider also the possibility of a defective electro-hydraulic actuator (EHA) in the fuel distributor, and/or damaged wiring between the ECU and the EHA, or a defective ECU.

The round "can" in the return fuel line is the system pressure regulator.

aside from looking at the wiring, is there a recommended plan to diagnose the trouble? I REALLY hate gassers.
