W210 rear window motor

I've replaced a broken rear passenger door regulator. Window worked fine before the plastic slider broke. How do I time the motor? It runs fine in the down direction but will not go up?

I've tried the hold the switch for 5 seconds trick. Window was all the way up. Held for 5, pushed switch in down position, window went up farther and now will not move.

Battery

Does the battery need to be disconnected before the new up and down positions are established? the Stickie said yes for the front windows because of the airbags, but it didn't say for the rear.

I just did this job and had no problems, are you sure it's not binding somewhere?

The Fix

Disconnected the battery and let it sit for an hour. Hooked it back up and tried the windows. All the windows would come down but not back up....curious. Broke down and called the dealer, they said it might take a computer reset. They are about an hour away so I started calling some of the indies near me that specialize in european cars. After several tries I found one that had the answer. When retraining the windows, only lightly push on the window switch to get the window moving. Take it up hold for several seconds, then down for several seconds. Problem solved. I did not see this tip in any of the DIY stickies so I hope this helps someone in the future.

the w210s require a sort of boot sequence. if your car has a special steering rack (I dont recall which) - it also requires moving the steering lock to lock slowly.
