Data Plate Info for a 1989 300e

Where do I find the the engine serial number on a 1989 300e? I'm trying to order some parts and I'm not sure what my engine number is. The data plate in the door does not indicate the engine number, and the plate in the engine compartment next to the hood latch has a ton of codes, I'm just not sure what any of them mean.
