x11 on a '87 190d ?
I am trying to diagnose some climate control issues on my 1987 190d while I have my dash out for recovering. The service manual has a supplement about the 87 model and states that there was an addition of an x11 connector for that model year. The push-button climate control system ( one without the E.C button ) should output diagnostic codes at the x11 terminal. However I havent been able to locate it. I saw a 190E that had one at the junk yard and the x11 is on the driver side fender. I have looked everywhere ( behind the battery too ) but i havent been able to locate one. Can any one guide me if x11 is only for gas engines or were they installed for the diesels too ?
On a related note, the reason i want to use the diagnostic code is because the manual states that the push button system goes to a fail-safe under certain conditions. The heater valve is opened and the air flaps for windscreen are opened plus some other things. The failure conditions are related to failure of temp sensors : interior, exterior, evap and coolant , plus the temp. wheel. From the various threads i have read about the climate control issues, I feel most of the people ignore the failsafe conditions . I would like to test these parts out but there isnt much information in the manual without the use of the socketbox, which , i do not have. Any ideas on how to go about this business ?
