2000 E320 should i do it ??

shopping a 2000 e320 4matic wagon , 64k . seems really clean . $12k deld. is this a good deal. any problems associated with this car.

should i spend 3k more and get an 05 with 111K? what problems to look for in 2004-2007 e320 wagon or sedan?

ps2cho 04-20-2013 11:57 PM

$12k sounds too high. More like $9-10k.

The 2000-2002 M112 V6's are very reliable. Just make sure the radiator has been replaced and the transmission fluid changed. Other than that, normal car review. I love our CLK320. Very smooth and economical.

Be careful,I've heard early V6s have trouble with balance shafts.

1998 to mid-year 2000 V6 and V8's had a recall with crankshaft pulley harmonic balancers.

I'm pretty certain all have been recalled by now.

You can have the dealer check the VIN if you are concerned about the recall.

If it hasn't been done, they will be happy to do it for you as MB corporate is footing the bill.

Assuming the car is absolutely perfect, 12K is still way too much, IMHO. Given the low mileage, the chances are good that it's a very clean car. I'd be willing to pay a premium due to the low mileage, but 12K is still off the charts.

As far as the harmonic balancer campaign, I'm betting it's been done already. It's highly unlikely that a defective balancer would have lasted this long. Also, previous post's have mentioned the radiator and balance shaft issues. The faulty Valeo radiators weren't an issue with the 210's, and the dreaded balance shaft affected the M272 engines, not the M112. :)

I have an '02 e320 sedan, have had a '99 e320 sedan, and my parents have an '01 4matic wagon. They've all been very satisfactory vehicles with less maintenance (knock on wood) than I would have expected.

thanks all , i have the car fax. it does show the following

11k electrical check / radio checked
brakes @ 30k
new battery - no mileage

one wheel and fender liner replaced ??

58k rear crank seal
61k blower motor , valve cover and drive belt tensioner.

no idea about the radiator. i think ill make an offer around 10k.

Assuming the cosmetics are OK, it'd be a darn nice car for $10K. I'd take it over a higher mileage '05 at equal money, let alone more.

Used car prices are crazy these days - a couple of years ago it would have been a nice $7K car. I sure don't see any at that price now.

Spanos Motors - Used Luxury Cars - Daytona Beach Used Vehicles

here is the link, tell me what yall think. i reoffered $10500. oh yeah dont buy it out from under me please.

Looks pretty good in the photos, though I find it's diffucult to tell much from online photos. A couple of thoughts:
- The dash display does not show any pixels out, which is good - and rare.
- I note they don't show any photos of the console with the car running - the climate panel is blank. The LCD display does tend to have problems, so I wonder if they are hiding something here.
- The upholstery is MB-Tex, not leather.
- The photos are very incomplete for an online seller - no shots of the wheels, tires w/tread depth, cargo area, etc.

If you can't look at it in person, I'd want a 3rd party inspection before popping $10K+.

thank you sir, i will make a point to get these questions answered. they have been not great about answering specific questions, i could not tell if that was due to general car salesmanship or they were trying to hide something. i think i am going to pass. i really want an AWD 320, is there another year that i should look other than the 2000-2002?

04 e500 low miles

We are still on the hunt, we found a nice 04 e500 for 19k. i have read some horror stories. This particular model seems very very nice. The vehicle has 73k and has some sort of CMC warranty until 12/13. the car has new tires, some extensive warranty work mainly to the transmission, hoses, valve cover gasket has recently been done. the suspension sounds sweet but a nightmare if you get a lemon and it needs to be replaced regardless at 100k for several grand.(so i have heard). the car is a 4matic which she wants for rain and snow, mpg is not an issue as the car will be driven maybe 4000miles a year.

The v8 gets me excited and the car is beautiful, it seems a little pricey but is very nice.

any beta on this vehicle would be appreciated. or should i spend 12k on a 2002 or 2003 with equal miles ????

engatwork 05-09-2013 08:52 PM

If you are looking for a v8 these look nice:).

MB wagon

I don't think it is fomatic though.

oldtown 05-10-2013 09:30 AM

that is a very nice car, however a little out of my budget for this project.

jcyuhn 05-10-2013 10:32 AM

We were just talking about E500 wagons the other day: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/338363-w211-e500-wagon-thoughts.html

Individual struts in the airmatic suspension do go out every now and then, but you don't need to do the whole thing at 100K, not even close. Probably it makes sense to replace both rear struts when one fails because there is so much common labor.

The E500 wagon is a great car, but you do need to be mentally and financially prepared to spend ~$2K on a repair. It may never happen, but then again it may. Just a cost of doing business at this altitude I am afraid.

Post up if you have any questions.

i have spotted two.
one is the one previously mentioned. the other is burgundy with charcoal interior with 68k one owner, 16500$, i dont know much about the service of the Red car. it is very clean and closer to NC than the other one. there is a 3000$ difference in these cars. the more expensive car has had a lot recent maintenance (or repairs). not sure what to do.

I would avoid the AWD and the V8s. Stick with the RWD V6. The V8 AWDs may push your buttons with cachet, and look cheap because the resale may not be there versus a V6 RWD. The V6 RWD is all you'll need except on snow and ice you probably shouldn't be Driving on anway. Wagons' weight distribution in a RWD should be adequate.

I would buy in-state only, unless there's a reason to travel much further, I'd wait for something local to pop up.
