Installing headlight washers on a 124
 

Hey all, I did the search, but all I keep getting is installing the Euro wipers when you install the euro lights.

I have a 260E that's badged as a 300E so I don't have the cool headlamp wipers, but I see them all the time at the junkyard so next time I go I want to pick them up and install them. What do I need though? Where is the relay for those and do I need a new fuse box?? :S Is this way more hassle than it's worth? I want to get them because future trips I want to take would get the car muddy/dirty and these would actually be very helpful. Any info would be appreciated!! Thank you!

More trouble then it's worth.
The wipers are combined with a washer.
They only operate with headlights on and when the windshield washer is activated.
The windshield washer reservoir has a second pump that feeds the headlight wiper blade.
Much like the windshield wiper, it's really not designed to clear mud or heavy dirt, just to keep the optics clean of normal road/driving haze buildup.

Oh okay, well then I'll just leave them off :(

Yeah not worth it. When they stop working I usually just remove them....

I'll 3rd that. They actually work on the Euro lenses pretty well but on the US federal lens they are pretty much worthless, and as such I've actually deleted mine.

I just (tonight actually) changed my fed lenses to euro. How to I properly cap the headlight washer spigot?

Does the first pump do the windshield and the second do the headlights?

If so, can I just unplug the second pump?

I'm waiting on the proper paint to cover the new filler panels I bought, I even stumbled upon the updated hood in Astral Silver!! My 89 will look a bit newer!

If I recall the headlight washer pump is on the right, looking from the front of the car. Pull the wire connector off the pump and then check your windshield washer.
The pumps are wired together and not sure if the logic is disrupted by unplugging one connector.

Leave everything intact in case you want to revert to stock and just put a screw into the end of the plastic hose that was connected to the washer nozzle

unplugging one motor won't screw anything up. I've deleted my headlight wipers too. I even cut the connector off and trimmed up the wiring to tidy things up. There is actually a little rubber plug available to plug the hole in the reservoir where the motor was...instead of using a screw.
