I'm pretty sure they are shaped the same.

I have a cluster from a 97 S420 I'm using as experimation for my R129 and can offer some numbers.

If you pull the cluster out, look at the top, the numbers on the S420 are 87 001 335 VDO made in Germany

I also just noticed the RPM redline on the S420 is 6,000 where my SL320 is 6,400 ish.
