2006 E350 Cooling System
Ok, sent the 96 E350 in for E service and received a $2900.00 estimate to replace oil cooler seals. Engine oil has entered the cooling system, they want to replace the coolant circulation pump, coolant reservoir and flush the radiator. I understand the radiator flush, I do not understand the recirculating pump if it is still operating. And why's the coolant reservoir? Also, need to know what is involved with replacing the oil cooler seals, to determine if I can do that job. Oh, by the way, nice to hear from you all again.

I don't own your car, so I'm going out on a limb a little bit, but this sounds more like a $290 job than a $2900 one. This is what I would do:
check the W211 forums for free knowledge on the topic buy the manual or download it from epc net plan on replacing the oil cooler or seals myself flush system, leaving recirc pump alone if it still works |
i thought 96 had inline 6 cylinder still? If so they need a head gasket too. V^ I know nothing about.
|
Those were my thoughts too, everything is operating fine, and no apparent oil loss. Tell me a little more about epc net... Thanks for the info.

hey if u are talking about a 2006 E350, then i believe that the following PDF can be of use to you: http://www.2phast.com/500e/techdocs/antifreeze_article.pdf the article explains that MB has switched to a long life antifreeze, approx. 15yrs. if i understood correctly, MB managed to extend the life of the antifreeze in their newer models by putting some sort of a "silica gel package" inside of the coolant tank. so its possible that the ""silica gel package" has now been contaminated with engine oil and therefore must be replaced, but this is just a guess on my part. am not sure about the water pump though. good luck |
Thanks, I remembered what it was when I signed into StarTek to print out the procedures for changing the oil cooler gasket.

The dealer wanted to use BG coolant system flush, at this point there are no retail outlets in my area that sells BG products at retail. Any suggestions on a good coolant system flush compatable with MB?
|
BG is pretty widespread:
BG Findashop - Search for an authorized BG service center near you! |
I guess I need to check with a couple of the local shops to see if they will sell to me.
