Why is my new bottle of coolant blue

I bought a 1998 C230 almost two years ago and I'm changing the coolant. It has the same color coolant in it as my 1991 190E I've had for many coolant changes. I just looked at the new coolant I got and I noticed it's blue. I googled it and got some information, but I was wondering if anybody here knows anything about it.

One specific question I have is how compatible are they with each other. How careful do I have to be flushing the old stuff.

I know MB switched coolant types recently. If you want the old stuff, you can buy Zerex G05.

The new, must be blue.

Just bought an '06 E320 CDI recently - oceans of blue in the overflow bottle. Must be an MB standard coolant color, since my '99's is aftermarket green.

Stick with Zerex G05 to be sure you wont have issues. Plus you'll save money.

The new coolant is G48 based coolant, not G05 based. Both are so-called hybrid coolants that contain silicates. Link to BASF webpage is here. Know-how on coolants ǀ Glysantin®
