Antenna question

Hey guys, I think I already know the answer to this but thought I'd throw it out here for your opinions :)

Backing out of the garage several months ago the upper plastic part (cell?) of the antenna got broken as it got hit by the garage door. I have removed the cell phone from the armrest and have noooo intention of ever reinstalling it so could I get a normal, all metal (stock) antenna mast to replace the broken one? My gut says there shouldn't be a problem but guess I need to hear it from the gallery here :P. And of course, correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks

I am confused, AM/FM/CTEL phone antennas were not introduced untill 1991, in the S class. It is propbaly easier to replace the mast with the standard mast, remove the nut, turn on the radio it should spit out the remainder of the mast and the winder cable, insert the new assembly, it should draw in the winder cable and mast, replace nut.

Peter, why are you confused:confused:

My car (the '95 E320 wagon, pictured) came with a cellphone mounted in the armrest. Perhaps my handle (85 DSEL) has you thinking that I'm talking about a 1985 era car?

Your suggestion is exactly what I was thinking - just put a standard mast back in. I have replaced these before so I am familiar with the procedure :)...thanks for your reply.

Sorry, your post did not indicate the car or a picture. You can get a antenna mast from Pelican or a genuine Hirshman (expensive).

Oh no problem! Now I'd like some help with the simple process of installing :)...

I did this once, several years ago on my W123 and assume it's kinda the same process? Have searched for specific instructions for the wagon but have yet to find anything.

There are two "nuts" that need to be loosened...one that is chrome (13mm) and the larger black one that is closer to the body. In trying to loosen only the chrome one, I turned on the radio but it did not run the mast up far enough to disengage from the gear inside the motor. Does the black nut need to be loosened as well? Anybody?

Thanks for any replies..:P
