Tranny won"t start in "P". W201.
 

Good day guys,Just did some work on my car, replaced battery,new paint job, replaced fuel filter and now car don"t even turn over in "P". will only start in neutral.what could be the issue here? neutral switch or internal xmssn problem? thanks for your input.:confused::confused:

I worked out my 95 diesel problem in starting and went about thusly

firstly check if your shifter has slop in it, if it has then you need to change the nylon bushngs on the shifter arm and the transmission arm.

if you dont have slop then verify that you have reverse lamp activity when in R and ignition ON, if not then adjust the neutral safety switch.

If you do have reverse lamps in R and only start in N and not P then replace the NSS itself. the switch has 4 wires only two of them are the starting bridge and 2 of them are the reverse lamp bridge.

Zulfigar,just checked the system and there is no slop.everything is tight. reverse light "on", so I guess the NSS is at fault.thanks again for your info.:cool:

I guess that 28+ year old electric parts do eventually die. Sad that it happens after you spend a bunch of money on paint, etc.
