Steering pump

Hi there,

My wife have Mercedes B. S420 95. Every now and then it starts making those noises when steering< especially in the mornings>, then i had to add alitlle more p.s.fluid. SHe was told the MB shop would charge $1500 to fix it, i guess they mean to replace the pump or seal, i dont know. Is'nt that alot for that?. I mean,... who the hell would charge so much, for that money you get get a whole used engine of another non mercedes car. How much do you guys thing they really charge, fairly and is it good to trust the job to non meredes mechanic( for steering pump replacement)? thanx for answers.

I have a leak in my pump as well as my gearbox, not that serious of a leak but nonetheless I have to add some every month or so.

The dealer wanted $1300 to reseal both; I don't think they replace them. I opted to buy the seals from FastLane and do it my self. I got both seal kits for under a $100 and I plan to do it as soon as the weather gets a bit warmer.

Dealers are thieves and butchers in my opinion, but sometimes there is little that you can do, I usually take it to have it diagnosed there for the minimum fee and do the work myself, whatever I can of course.

Independent shops are usually a bit cheaper and do good work, you just need to look around for someone you can trust.

Good luck.
