Cam timing 95 C280 pin hole line up
 

I had to replace the head on my 95 C280 now I need to set the cam timing I understand you use a dowel pin 4mm in the hold but fist it seem the holds are much more then 4mm and there are 3 holds on the one gear what hole do I use and do you set the motor to TDC:confused:

With timing of lower end at tdc, set cam ears up position on cylinder 1, use the smaller holes to line up with flat part of head, and make sure adjustable intake cam sprocket is rotated to the right before setting chain on gear,then set timing , then install tensioner and reset tensioner before installing and crank engine around by hand to check that you did it correctly.

As I understand what you are saying set both cams so the pin hole rest on the head and set the crank to TDC ok try that I not sure if the mark is TDC it read (00) at this the piston is hiting, so want am I doing wrong confused:

Before you install chain over intake sprocket,the adjustable outer gear should be rotated to the clockwise position, and the small hole =should be lined up with horizontal edge of head , then put chain around onto intake gear ,if it dosent line up take chain off and use a wrench on camshaft to turn it clockwise or counterclockwise to get it into position then put chain back on, hopefully in tdc position , if your unsure of where the mark is , go ahead and remove cams , and then have someone hold chain up , and insert a 1/4 extension into plug hole number one until when you crank by hand it rises to highest position indicating tdc, the mark should read T.O
OR 0 DEGREES, and by looking into plug hole you should see piston all the way up, it sounds like your timing is off if your binding, only rotate in direction of rotation of engine clockwise when checking final marks align correctly

Just looked in a book the mark tdc should read O.T. maybe you reading between 0Tand 10 ,tdc is =OT, THE MARK BETWEEN O AND T IS TDC ,if your reading the 0 0 mark your about 5 degrees off,
