Sad Day at the Junkyard-Anybody Want a Project 300TE in Beautiful Condition-Pictures

I saw this beautiful 1993 black 300TE at the junkyard today. The place just got this wagon and they were waiting for the title. They told me the car could be purchased whole before any parts were pulled. Probably around $800 based on my previous dealings. No u-pick-it here so the car won't be mutilated by a bunch of hacks in the next couple days. Within about a week, I bet the yard will pull the instrument cluster and other high $$ items.

It was in absolutely great cosmetic shape. The water still beaded on every panel like it was just waxed. Paint appeared original--no obvious overspray or sloppy fender bolts. I didn't notice scratches or dents granted it was raining. MB Tex was in good shape too as expected.

Being a later pre-facelift 124, it had the M104 from the '94 and '95. 239K!! Yard stated a "bad motor" but I didn't see any obvious oil leaks or oil in the coolant. State inspection valid until 03/14 so it was just on the road. Wiring harness had a 2000 date code. Oil change sticker due at 241K from a Jiffy Lube joint so I wouldn't be surprised if the "bad motor" diagnosis was actually a faulty coil or something otherwise minor. The car was picked up by the forklift and I didn't check the undercarriage. No damage to any doors...operators pretty skilled bunch here.

Let me know if anyone's interested. Sad to see it go to waste. Great diesel engine convert candidate!

Does all that red clay mud have a zip code?

I just paid almost a hundred bucks for a rear taillight. I'd pull those too. That car is too nice to scap out.

"you in Henrico county now, Boy" words of one of Va's finest SS camp guard wannabes during a traffic pullover back in the 55 mph days.

Every time I go to the JY in LA I see at least a dozen rust free W124s, one or two of which are wagons. Last time there was a red 94 wagon in mint condition with a failed smog receipt in the glove box and a 300ce sportline with a dented fender. W140s are close to outnumbering W124s and a few W210s have starter trickling in. I don't see what the big deal is, these cars are essentially worthless to most people.

You can't find a nice wagon under 2k. I searched for months and found a nice one that needed 1500$ In body repair. I paid $2500 for it.

Some wagons sell for north of $7k. The sedans are a dime a dozen.

I doubt it's got a "bad" motor. I wouldn't trust any junkyard bonehead to diagnose it. Might be worth looking into yourself. Could be an easy flip.
