W210 Wiper Anomoly:
During this K40 issue, the wipers were accidentally activated while attempting to read codes through OBD2 port and the wipers would not shut down from the combination switch. I allowed the wiper arm to go to it's lowest point on the passenger's side and switched off the key.
After that, the wiper arm no longer moves. Turn signals, power locks, sunroof, power seats, hazards and windshield washer all work and a relay can be heard closing underhood when the wire switch is moved. Your thoughts are invited... |
check other ground points and clean

Sound like you might have a salt water flood car :(

Any strange wiper behavior I've ever had in a Benz was a ground, usually on the drivers side of the car.

Don't the wiper motors have an internal switch that they trigger in the park position? Maybe it got stuck in just the right spot where its not getting power or signal correctly...

On the bright side, luckily we haven't had any rain. :D

What Controls W210 Wipers?
Ok,
Many W210 folks have strange wiper issues like washers not working, turn signals inoperative, etc., but my car is different...my wipers are inoperative but everything else on the car, even the washers work. Inspection reveals there is no power going to the wiper motor, but you can hear a relay in the K40 closing in high-speed wiper switch position. The mechanism is clean and lubricated and the gears in the motor look brand new...the issue is no power. Is there a control unit for the wipers in a W210???? Thanks... |
Yes,
The wiper commands are executed by the N10-1 Combination Control Module... |
Did you get them fixed?
We're getting about an inch of rain tomorrow, and between 2 and 5 inches on Friday. I think you're lucky to get an early W210 with the M104 engine. I think it's a better engine than the V6 that replaced it in 1998. It's no surprise that MB has announced it's getting rid of the V6 and going back to the straight 6. Straight 6's are perfectly balanced engines.... |
I haven't got them fixed yet. I suspect the N10-1 control unit.
Yes, I like the 6 much better, how it ended up in a 1998 production E320 is beyond me, but I like it... |
Dr Bert,
I recently was chasing no-wipers problem on my W210, and my was total error on my part with a fuse, but I had dissected my whole steering column and electrical... Here are some good threads, and my thread. Has a schematic that help me out as I was able to ohm-out the combo-switch I'm scratching my head on this one !!! - Mercedes-Benz Forum Wipers inop - Mercedes-Benz Forum All the schematics: Wiring Diagrams - Mercedes-Benz Forum Best of luck, Martin |
