w126 300sel ATF Quarts?

Own a 1988 300sel (w126) and would like to know how many ATF quarts are needed to fill up the transmission. Would like to replace the ATF with a synthetic.

Can't find my CD manual and need to replace the fluid as soon as possible.

A good ATF is the Valvoline Dexron VI or Multi-vehicle synthetic. I use either with no issues. Approx fill for that transmission is 7 quarts if you fully drain the pan and torque converter and change filter.

To re-fill, pour in about 3 quarts, start engine, pour in 4 more while its idling. Run through the gears a couple times and drive till its warm. Check fluid level again (on flat ground, idling, in Park) and add any additional as needed. Usually total fill comes to around 7.2 to 7.4 qt.

Thanks for the detail
Is it necessary to drain the Torque Converter?

Very useful information. Thank you. Been looking for something like this.
Any advice on draining the Torque Converter.

I think I should drain the TC since I'm going from a Non Synthetic ATF to a Synthetic. Please advise
