my wifes 190E 2.6 is a pint or so low I would like to top it off, auto zone gave me castrol trans max but I do not see Mercedes listed on the back of the jug. my question is this compatible with the fluid in the car or will it hurt the trans?

autozone brand is actually Dexron III. That is the recommended fluid for the MB 190E model.

Yes, but if it doesn't specify on the back that it can be used with vehicles calling for dexron3 or dexmerc 3 (?) then you can take it back and swap

Is this also the same fluid recommended for a '88 300SEL? My moms car is well overdue for a tranny fluid and filter change. The gasket has been leaking for awhile and we have refilled with Dexron III when it gets low and haven't had any issues, so I think this is the fluid to use for the '88. I think it has the 722.3 transmission as well? Also wondering if it is just a simple remove the pan, drain fluid and reinstall new filter kind of deal, or is there a special technique for draining/refilling on these?
Thanks! |
