01 s600 trunk

The trunk will only open with the manual metal key. I push the button on the remote and I hear the pump running but the trunk won't open. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know much about those but if the pump is connected to the truck opening mechanism with vacuum or pressure lines I'd check for any leaks in the connections/lines.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be sure to check it out. Although it does suck itself closed without a problem.

Won't open or won't unlock?

Is this a new problem?

Some trunks can be locked with the metal key to override remote unlocking.

It won't open. I don't think it's locked. It worked at the store, got home and nothing.

Take the car back to the "store" and have their personnel resolve the problem. I doubt that a pump is involved with opening the trunk remotely, more likely an electric solenoid.

Why would a grocery bagger solve the problem? X2 on vacuum or electric though, could easily be a loose or dirty connector.

Appreciate all the help. I found the problem. There is a small black pod at the trunk actuator that is leaking the vacuum. The pump does indeed control the remote open as well as the soft close. In this case it only affects the opening side of it for some ridiculous reason. In any event, I temp. Sealed it and when I push the button I can see the rod push out. Now, just need to find a way to permanently seal it. The part is like $400, I'll try to seal it first and I'll let you all know how it goes. Learn something new everyday :)

Stevo884, that's a new one for me. Although the more I think about it I presume the fuel filler door unlock on many/all MB vehicles works via vacuum. You're correct ... one learns something new many days, if not every day. Good luck repairing the leak!

Not even close to uncommon on a W220. I'm glad you were able to resolve without too much effort. Wish I would have saw this thread earlier I could have told you off the bat. :P

Is it the actuator itself or a rubber connector/line coming out of it? It's 13 years old already, that rubber is going to start drying and leaking (the bane of many of our repairs!)
