Painting exhaust system
Just picked up a new exhaust system and it has the silver paint applied.
I was planning on painting it to prolong the life of the system with either zinc paint or some exhaust hi temp paint from the local auto supply. Any suggestions? I was leaning for the zinc to prevent corrosion externally. Thanks. |

The zinc I've used before tends to burn off. High temp silver works just fine, be sure to wipe down with lacquer thinner for good adhesion. And, clean / touch up every few years.

krjt, as far as I know exhaust systems normally rust from the inside out, primarily as the result of a vehicle being driven short distances repeatedly. The exhaust system never reaches operating temperature, and internal condensation causes oxidation to start on the bottom of the exhaust pipe and muffler, etc.
