no egr valve
 

trying to figure out why my car was idling so roughly after i start the engine , one of the guys in this forum told me it could be my ovp or my egr valve well i replace the ovp did not solve the problem came down to my egr valve and guess what the car doesnt have any i call Fastlane for infor they told my that my car was probably built in europe i did a lemon check turns out the car was built in germany now what do i do is there any way i can install one or just forget about it what do u guys suggest

If it's actually a Euro car then I don't think adding an EGR valve would be that helpful. Maybe it's actually a US-spec whose previous owner removed the EGR valve.

When it comes to rough idle, consider the engine mounts...

A report that tells you your Mercedes was built in Germany isn't much of a report :p If you provide some specifics of what car you have, folks can help you determine whether or not it was built to US specs. That will help you determine whether or not it should have an EGR system.

You mention that it has an OVP. I believe any car with an OVP relay should have an EGR system regardless of where it was intended to be sold.

Somebody tell him where it's supposed to be located. I have seen them on the exhaust manifold but mine doesn't have one either. My wife has me doing spring cleaning so I don't have time to look it up on the CD.:rolleyes:

Ok what kind of info would you like me to give you SIXTO so we can figure this devil out (forgive me MB lovers) I know what an egr valve is i know what it is suppose to do but hey on that manifold there is no Egfr valve it could not be anywhere else in order for it to do what it is suppose to do is that right? please help i am loosing sleep over this car.

If I'm causing tension with the tone of my response it isn't intended. It's common and appreciated practice to include the year and model of your car every time you post a question. There are thousands of forum members. Even the techs can't remember who has what kind/s of car/s.

Maximus, I see from previous posts that you have an 89 300E. Is there a VIN tag on the driver side windshield pillar? If so, does it have a number like WDBEA30 or WDB124? If it has a VIN of the WDBEA30 variety then you have a US car (possibly a Canadian car) and it should have an EGR system. The EGR valve will be towards the rear of the forward exhaust manifold.

I hope the attached photo is clear enough. I had to trim it to keep it under the attachment size limit.

From what I've read in this forum and others, the EGR system is not a common cause of rough idling. More common causes are tired oxygen sensor, leaking electrohydraulic actuator, vacuum leak, etc. These problems may or may not have other symptoms.

Not having an EGR valve whether your car was originally equipped with one or not eliminates a possible cause of your rough idle.

I hope I don't sound condescending because I really don't mean to. I've rough idle problems with my SE for over a year so I'm by no means an expert on these engines. 'Rough idling M103' ranks among the top 10 post topics along with 'synthetic vs petroleum oil' and 'MB vs other brands of coolant.'

Thanks Sixto for your reply really appreciate you taken the time to show me a pic of exactly where that egr valve is and once again i have to say my car doesnt have one on the first exhaust manyfold towards the radiator I can see like the oval shape of where the egr valve should be but there is nothing there the only way i could put one is by buying and exhaust manifold with the egr valve already installed i wish i had a digital camera to show you here is my vin#WDBEA30D2KB063064
1989 300e w/141k miles and what is funny about the car also is that the rough rough idling only happen after i start the car after that i could go anywhere with it as long as i dont shut off the engine regardless if the engine is cold or hot : It would start fine then 2 mins later the idling would drop so low it would sometime die then after another let say 3 to 5 minutes it would go back to normal.Another thing is b4 i bought the car it had a rejection sticker on it the guy told me it is because the car needed a catalic converter i told him to replace and get the sticker b4 i buy the car but from looking at all the welding that was done it order to put that converter in i wonder if he put the right converter in and if not would that have any effect on my idling? thanks guys

You'll have problems at higher revs if something's wrong with the catalytic converter/s. A bad cat won't cause problems only at idle.

My uneducated guess is that something's wrong with your warm-up regulator or a temperature sensor. I wouldn't replace those items on a hunch. Keep doing the research to figure out what's really wrong. Search the archives. I'm sure somehas has asked about the same symptoms.

FWIW, my engine is really rough for a couple of seconds after I start the engine. Then it's almost butter smooth until it gets to operating temperature. Then the idle is rough enough to be annoying but not rough enough for me to take it to the shop.
