w126 m103 motor mounts

I need to replace my motor and transmission mounts. I've looked at a few different forums on the mounts and found that most of them are junk. I've seen threads but nothing confirmed about 300sdl mount and V-8 mounts work better. Has anybody use a different model mount and had good luck with them or same model but different manufacturer? Found one side lemforder but can't find the other side yet.

I'd buy them from the dealership or an online place that buys from the dealership. They're $60 each. Everywhere else I looked only had subpar quality brands.

just emailed the nearest dealer to me. Waiting on what they say.

Just following up on an old thread; I've gone thru 3 right mounts in 9 months; one a Meyle, one a URO (I ordered a Meyle but the box said URO), and one that said it was an OE and came in a MB sack, but failed in 3 months.

So, I finally broke down and ordered genuine OE thru Parts.com. The left was $60, and right was $90!!!!!! Wish me luck.

I can confirm that you really *do* want to buy the better quality mounts. Even so, I discovered that even the good mounts will get destroyed rather quickly if the engine shocks are bad. My 300SE has two such engine shocks and I learned the hard way that the mounts will tear pretty fast without the shocks to dampen the stresses from hard shifts and/or engine braking.

It's worth checking them out.

^ Just confirmation that Meyle is no longer to be trusted. They used to make semi-decent stuff, now its 100% reboxing.

Yep, more and more the only good parts you can get for these cars is from the dealer. I buy so much from my dealer he gives me a discount so its not too bad. :D

I have lemforder mounts that I did not get chance to install and Won't as just sent application for CA Voluntary retirement program (Don't want to deal with tire kickers even though car is running fine and need only few things). It's for w126 '89 420sel.

The RF Meyle 'HD' collapsed on my 300SEL in four days. Yes, four days. Go OEM MB for the 300SE/L W126, I have had it on the car for two years now with no issues.

Compare how the SDL and V8 mounts appear, they look nothing like the M103 mounts. Not sure how you could use those in place of the M103 units.

One of my E23 BMWs has Meyle upper and lower control arms, in sub 10000 miles of driving one of the ball joint boots has split and the others are close to doing the same. That is what I get for trying to save $20 each.

Meyle is crap, same boat from China as Uro.

A little tip for you W126 103 engine mount seekers. Rock Auto (Sorry to the parts guys that sponsor this site, but this deal is too juicy to pass by) has right side (That's the problematic side) engine mounts, Lemforder for 21.79 plus shipping. They even carry the MB part number
123-241-52-13 embossed on them along with the Lemforder part number 1084601. I'm guessing they are OEM, as they look identical to my delear purchased mount. Not sure why they have them; but they only have 13 left in stock. They only have the right side Lemforder. I just replaced one, and bought an extra for my next 50,000 miles. I've tried the other after markets and they're all worthless. I'm not affiliated with these guys in any way, and shop at your own risk.

Lemforder seems to be generally good stuff; and my experience with Rock Auto has always been top-notch. Might certainly be worth a try, as the cheapest place I could find the MB part was $95. I just installed the MB mounts on both sides; they came embossed with the part number and the 3-pointed star, and sealed in the original dealer bags. I had had a vibration/tingle at idle for several years, and installing 3 sets of aftermarket mounts (in 16 months!) had no effect whatsoever. The OE mounts cleared it right up. So, it's a live & learn scenario. Also have new mount shocks, so hopefully my huge investment will last past Christmas!

Along the same lines, bought some Febi upper control arms, and the big bearings/bushings are junk. I heard Cortico was the OE supplier, but haven't broken down yet and purchased a set ($150 or so). Any thoughts on Cortico?

Coreteco, last I checked was good.

I bough some Febi upper control arms last year for the 420SEL's front end rebuild.. Already replaced them..

outofspec 10-17-2014 06:55 PM

I did my entire front end about two years ago and decided to go all OE from the dealer. In my investigative reading on line, I've also heard that Cortico was an OE supplier, but I have no practical experience with them.
S-class, do you remember where the 3 point star was embossed on your mount? As I look at the spare mount I have, just above the MB 123 part number there is an abrasion, like someone took a wire brush to it about 1 inch by 1/4 inch. I'm wondering if that star was there and they removed it for after market. I've heard about that happening, but never have seen it.

I wanted to post a follow up to my install of the Lemforder engine mount.
Almost a year to the day, and about 11000 miles later the Lemforder mount has collapsed flatter than a pancake.
It may have collapsed long ago. I haven't checked it because I figured I was golden inside a year. Total junk, what a disappointment.
Anybody know where I can get a Cortico mount, other than the dealer?

JamesDean 10-04-2015 07:55 PM

I think I've got some mounts here with that same abrasion. I suspect it was the MB star that was part of the die/mold that made the mount. Some have said that having the abrasion is a good sign, a sign that it was made by the OEM for aftermarket but I suppose there is no guarantee on what material they injected into the mold to make that..could have used a lower quality material.

I just checked MB is looking for ~68 a mount
