I have a 1982 300DT that really runs super. The one thing that bugs me, is the low diff. gear ratio. A mechanic said it was (I forgot the exact number) about 3:45 to 1. How many other differentals will fit; how high should I go? Now I am turning about 3100 @ 70 MPH. I think the car should handle 2300 @ 70 MPH. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, jim Peterson

How many miles has it survived like it is? I would suggest that you leave it as is. They ran great with this ratio diff, and if you change it you could change the whole attitude of the car in the wrong direction. Just one opinon.

YOUR CAR CAME WITH A 3.07/1 RATIO REAR END.
THE ONLY LOWER RATIO EVE OFFERED FOR YOUR CAR WAS 2.88/1. THE RATIO WAS OFFERED IN 1985 ON 300DT/300TDT/300CDT. IF YOU REPLACE THE REAR END YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE SPEEDOMETER OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE GOING ABOUT 7/12 MPH TOO FAST. |
