1986 420SEL - won't start after dash re-installed

I drove it into my garage, removed the dash, repaired the wood paneling, re-installed the dash and now it will not start.

Cranks strongly; battery 12.7V.

What might I have disturbed under the dash area that would cause this. I didn't touch anything under the hood. What about connectors to the main instrument panel?

I did remove the steering wheel and airbag, and re-installed same.

Thanks. Help would be most appreciated! I'm stumped!

Simon

More research and testing.

Not sure how this would be affected by a dash removal and reinstallation, but I've noticed that with the ignition key in the run position, there is no audible hum from the fuel pump at the rear of the car.

I put a multimeter across the terminals and got 0.14V DC, expecting battery voltage. I suspect that the fuel pump relay is the culprit, but before I rush out to buy a fairly expensive part - am I on the right track?

I took the relay apart. Is this the a DIY re-solder the board project? Like I've successfully done on cruise control boards etc.?

If I pull the fuel pump relay and bridge terminals 7 and 8 on the socket, will that supply battery voltage to the fuel pump and therefore I should hear it humming?
