Automatic Transmission fluid choice?
What automatic transmission fluid should I put in my 1986 W201 2.3-16v? It has a very good 722.410 automatic transmission in it.
IS there anything at the auto parts store that will be an acceptable replacement for the Mercedes fluid? Is the original fluid a Dexron IID type? I don't have a dealership within 2 hours of my location. |
I would think NAPA Premium Mercon/Dexron III or any other high quality Mercon/Dexron III would be fine.

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking. Do you see any issues using synthetic or a synthetic blend od the Dexron fluids?

I have been told by a few mechanics and automatic transmission builders that swepco atf is a really tough ATF, it can take severe beatings and still not oxidise and it also has a very stout add pack in it that makes it very close to the original dx iii H formulation.
I have never tried it myself (online stuff) but if you read about it - you wont find anything negative. OTOH - if you want a good ATF then the NAPA one or even the regular valvoline dex/merc is a good choice - you need to change both at 25000 miles anyway. |
I use Mobil One atf in all my mercedes
