'91 300CE (M104 Engine) - smog pumped seized, belt shredded
Had the air pump seize on me today and destroyed the belt. I know there are threads on a modification - just removing the air pump and replacing the belt with a shorter one. Can someone provide some guidance? Maybe a link to a DIY thread? I think I put a 6PK 2445 belt on this a few years ago - what size would I need if I just removed the air pump? This is the M104 engine...
Thanks, Ryan |
you'll have to guess on belts, make sure with pump gone water pump and fan turn the right direction

PM me your VIN and i will find out what belt fits.

My 91 300SL-24 parts car ( same motor as you CE ) had the air pump removed and shorter belt installed. Car is in storage at the moment so I can't pop out and get the # right now ( if the number is even still on the belt.)
Do you have enough of the old belt to cut and loop in order to measure what you need? If no numbers come up, post and I'll have a look. |
Daddi (Thanks!) has indicated a 2285mm long belt (90"), while I kept seeing 2365mm (93") come up in threads discussing the M103 engine.
My belt is a 2445mm (96")... And, I'm not sure but the belt looked pretty torn up! |
If the clutch is good, unplug the pump.
