Great Newsgroup!!
As a first timer, may I say HELLO to everyone! Now lets get down to business shall we! What diesels out there just have not lived up to Benz's expectations? I have heard about this oil gallery problem with the 300 series, anyone else know of this? Greetings to all, Chris |
The models with engine troubles will have the 6-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. This engine's code is the 603. There were many different versions of the 603 produced. Only a few of which were affected by the oil windage tray breaking off and clogging the oil pump with metal debris. However I would stay away from any of these six cyl turbo diesels had chronic cylinder head trouble and/or connecting rod trouble. Models: Early 300D turbo, 300SD, and the 350SDL(W126 and W140).

Thanks for the reply, could you let me know the effected years for the 300sd, I am particularly interested in the 3.5 litre turbo-diesel model.

Are you more interested in a W140 or a W126?
The W140 was a 1992 model only as a 350SDL. Off the top of my head, the W126 was a 90 or 91 model. It was also dubbed a 350SDL. Both of these were the 3.5 liter models. Benzmac |
This actually threw my leasing agent also, as he could not find the car in his book, but I am interested in a 1992 300sd, which has a 3.5 litre turbo-diesel. I dont think this car was this common in talking to people, I have the serial number, would this help in breaking down the code?
Thanks |
