Hmm not entirely sure that it is the cause of your problem but ultimately you'll need a replacement cable, might as well replace it?

I'm stuck on my 722.4 tranny as well. Mine definitely needs a rebuild. The fluid is actually gray with ground aluminum in it. Reverse is close to gone. I did a "best offer" of $450 shipped ups today for a transmission with supposidly 75k on it and it was rejected. I'll probably end up rebuilding my current tranny. It's either that or around $2k shipped for a rebuilt tranny.

I believe 124 300 58 30 is the part number for the cable that you need. I've never replaced one myself so I can't be of much help in that category.

You can order that through this site (they have a parts business that sponsors this website)

There are other places that you can get it online but since the forum sponsor has their own parts sales business we generally can't post up competitors websites.

I might have an extra shifter linkage cable if you want it since I bought one and ended up getting a rebuild from Sun Valley transmissions (still going strong by the way, almost at 50k on it).

But sorry to be the bearer of bad news, unless your fluid level is low (check it HOT and engine ON), then you will need a rebuild for the reverse. Transmission has to come out in its entirety.

Sounds to me like the shifter linkage is the issue with the forward gears, and the internal reverse band/piston failure is the reverse deal. Both are separate issues, but ultimately you need to decide if you want to live without reverse, or buy a new/refurb transmission or rebuild yours.
