The sunroof on my 1989 300e recently broke. Now it only opens upward but will not roll back. I can hear something moving back when I push the sunroof switch to open, but it is as if the sunroof itself is detached from the pulling mechanism. If I peek towards the back, I can see a bar moving back and forth, but it doesn't pull the sunroof with it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the flex cable has either broken or has detached from the bridge. To remove the headliner, pull on it downward from the front of the liner and slide it out.
