Broken spring perch 97 E320 w210

As title states. My right front spring is no longer connected to my car.
This should be fun fun fun.

I'm told this is a common issue with the 210.

Rob, best to have a reputable bodyshop familiar with MB vehicles perform the repair. Recommend inspecting/repairing the left spring perch at the same time as preventive maintenance. As mentioned, spring perch failure is a known problem with the 210 cars.

Good advice. Finding a reputable MB oriented shop is the challenge!

I do recall someone, perhaps on BW W210 forum doing a DIY repair. I think he bought a kit from MB. The new perches were attached using high strength pop-rivets that required a compact hydraulic rivet gun.

Thanks for the advise. Dealer has the part for $50.50 a side. Ordered both and will do them myself. With a very talented welder friend of mine of course.

Rob, after you weld the new spring perches be sure to apply some high quality undercoating to prevent future rusting.

As you've already found, the parts are reasonably priced and easy to get. They are not difficult to change.

However MB offers two parts, just the perches, and then a more extensive repair panel. Make sure you do not have substantial rust to the wheel well before you weld fresh perches to a rusty panel. On most of the ones I've seen done it was just the perches, but I have seen the whole panel done a couple of times.

Does anyone know if MB offers the repair panel for the W124? My friend's 300E suffered the same fate.

I've never heard of that happening on a W124....what does the rest of the car look like?

There's about 3 reported cases I found on google of w124s having broken spring perches, and one W123 somewhere online. It's possible on any MB, not just a W210.

Those are the perches themselves. My buddy ordered new ones. We plan on tacking this repair this weekend. I was concerned with repairing the damage to the panel that the perch attaches to. I figured if MB made a repair PANEL like they did for the 210 that it would be better.

Maybe the damage is not overly extensive and wont require high levels of new metal. We'll find out this weekend. I'll be sure to take lots of photos and post up.
