Alarm help -500e

My '92 500e has an alarm system (Viper/Python?) - there is a red led and a button installed to the right of the light switch. The button is a clear plastic that emits a buzz when depressed and then flashes yellow then red. But this does not "arm" the system. The remote has two buttons with "python" embossed on the top and fcc ID ezsdei1491 on the back. "DEI" is embossed on the back, I replaced the battery and the red light flashes on the remote when a button is depressed. I tried to see if I could program the remote by pushing the dash button once, wait for the buzz, then holding the dash button and remote button one down simultaneously until a buzz. But I cannot arm the system.

Can anyone recognize what system I have from the above info? If so, How do I trouble shoot it? Is the "brain" under the left side rear passenger seat? I find the siren under the hood on the left side of the engine.

I had this same predicament when I bought my car.

My alarm "brain" was under the dash, on the driver's side. I took it to an alarm shop to see if they could locate it. So that's where mine is, and it's a fairly common place to put it.
I then bought a remote and had him program it to my car... don't ask how... I do not remember! You probably need it coded, I'd assume.

Good luck!
