help ! key tumbler broke?
Help! last night while testing my fuel pump my son tells me my key wont work right, it appears to be stuck in the #2 position, the car (1985 126 380se 200,000? miles) would not turn off,i had to disconnect the battery, nor would it go to the sprung feeling start position. the lock still locks.
is this just the tumbler or the whole thing, could a 1st grade little kid have broken this? thanks kenny |

The key won't turn but the lock still locks?
In any event, the key usually needs to be in the 1 or 2 position to push the pin that lets the cylinder out so don't try to turn it backwards. You will need to find a breakdown of the lock or someone that has taken these apart. ( I'm more familiar with the late 90's stuff. ) It is a major parts breaking ordeal if you can't get the lock cylinder out the proper way. RE: can't turn key. |

Sorry I was not clear the key still turns from 11o'clock to 4 o'clock but there is no start position I think my boy busted it it also clicks like something is clicking in place is there any way he could have damaged more than the tumblers?

And by stuck in 2 nd position I mean that I could not turn the key back to 1 or off to shut down the car I had to remove the neg battery cable, nor
could I go to start , it feels like there is know spring tension in the lock |

A 1 YO just won't have enough strength to break anything and I'd expect the key to twist off before anything else broke. The electrical portion of the ignition switch may have failed. Or the link between the lock cylinder and switch. I've had this happen on other brands before.
Stop in on the Diesel side of the list, I'm pretty sure someone has taken this apart before. |
