w211 steering issue

I recently purchaced a 2005 e320 CDI with 156, 000 miles, the stering does not feel linear, it feels like there are tight spots and loose spots, both tires are rounded on the outside and oneIis beveled on the inside, what should I be looking for when I get a chance to look under the car?

Full front end inspection. It has enough miles that anything or everything could be worn. Especially check for looseness or binding in tie rod ends. I think yours has rack and pinion steering. I don't remember off the top of my head how to check for a worn out rack, but I'm sure the info will be here if you search. Ball joints could be done as well. Check by raising one wheel slightly off the ground and working it up and down with a BFP. It should be smooth and not make any funny noises. Then repeat with the other wheel. I just got done working 40 hours in four days, so I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things. Others will probably chime in shortly.

Ball joints.

Known wear item on W211 chassis.
Easy and relatively inexpensive to change.

I'll give it a look, ball joints sound like the right idea, it isnt loose or sloppy, more uneven and awkward

So tell me a story...

How the #@$& do I jack this thing up?

I guess all this plastic reduces the cd and wind noise but makes lifting difficult...
