are Uro parts utter s***T?
 

Hi all
i just installed a URO fuel pump relay in my 380 and the sucker quit working after a whole 2 days!
could there be something going on with my car that would eat a relay this quick?

Maybe it was just one bad part or something. Ir always thought Uro parts were pretty good. I've put a Uro fan clutch and a Uro antenna on my 90' 420sel and they seem to be pretty quality parts.

URO stuff isn't good, Gerryvz will pop in soon to inundate you with links to their epic fails.

I like some people will use URO stuff on stuff I deem to be of little importance, however a fuel pump relay... grab a used OEM one at the wrecking yard for under $5.

Relays typically are very dependable - last forever. Basically check the voltage to the coil and/or the car voltage. If it is 12-14 volts, then the relay should work forever. If the voltage is say 20 volts, then that could burn out the relay coil.

Like a light bulb which has too much power applied - it will burn out.

Anyway other than that, I have been buying a LOT of crap lately (stuff for around the home). Does not work out of the box, not designed exactly right, or stops working within a month. This stuff is made in China.

In this case relay is a bit of a simple term. The fuel pump relay has more than just a coil in it. It also has RPM sensing capability and I think provides power to a few other items. (maybe)

Uro parts are junk.

The only place I'd use a Uro part would be something cosmetic that is easily changed, like the roof antenna tip or gasket on the W210.

Any part that is critical or takes a decent amount of time? If you GAVE me the Uro part, it would go in the trash can and I'd buy a part I could trust.

But if I had to choose, I'd probably go with an unbranded part off of ebay before I'd buy Uro.

Serious junk.

i just bought the uro one because i had some money left on a amazon gift card, i was going to then order a KAE one and stick the Uro one in the glove box as a back up..just figured it would last longer than 2 days

Hopefully you can still return it to Amazon and buy something useful.

Like my friends' latest album. At $9 it's going to last lots longer than the Uro relay. :D :D

Both Moises and Rocio are my friends, but I met them through their bass player. She loves to sing jazz and blues, but covers the bases with pretty much everything. If they do a gig and someone calls a C&W tune, she's classy enough to hide the "eye roll" too. :) Rocio's website is gethermusic.com; (this is a tunepak link with tracks from her last album) and there are other samples there. She is an amazing vocalist, speaks several languages (fluently) and does quite a bit of voiceover work. And she offers voice lessons.

I have no idea how she finds time to cut an album. :D


PS: Sorry to hijack your thread, but I was just trying to find a better use for your money than a Uro relay. :D And, by the way, the tunepak link above is complete tracks, not just samples. Some are originals, some are original twists on classics, like "Night and Day."

So the KAE relay came, installed it and it fired right up, I was thinking of checking the fuse box were it plugs in what should I look for, 12 volts at the socket were it plugs in any suggestions just trying to rule out something my car is doing or did I just get a bad part

URO = U Replace Often.

Although I've heard a rumor that MB themselves were going to URO to source some parts. This is an unsubstantiated allegedly true peice of information.

Electronic parts are generally reliable over many years however if the components are made from substandard materials then you are in for pot luck. The problem with relay units such as the OVP and fuel relays is that the soldering joints are becoming oxidised or separating because of the poor quality solder or original soldering technique.

well the KAE one has so far out lasted the URO one by a few hours, so i guess its unlikely my car is doing something to fry these relays
