There are three distinct noises coming from the drive shaft and/or differential area of my 1990 190E:
1.) A scraping sound when I first begin to depress or release the accelerator. 2.) When I let the car coast to a stop, starting at about 25 mph there is a whining or droaning sound that winds down with the speed of the car. 3.) From a standstill if I accelerate firmly to, say, 10 mph and then let off of the gas, there is a pause and then a loud clunking sound. The only thing a dealer and a mechanic have found wrong is the front flex disc is worn. Could that be all or just part of the problem? Thanks in advance! Matt |
That could be most of the clunk. The whine however is in the diff. I seen many faulty ones.

Okay, the scraping and clunk (what a combo!) are probably the flex disc, but the whine is the differential? Does the differential need to be replaced any time soon, or can I change the fluid and igore it? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!
