considering a w220

I'm somewhat seriously considering getting a w220(likely a 500). I understand the airmatic issue and dont have serious issues having to replace eventually or switch to coilovers.. I found a lot of opinions that they are compicated and expensive to maintain but are there any dealbreakers for the 2003 and up cars? I priced out most pm components (and stuff that normally breaks) and didnt see anything too scary. I plan on doing all the work myself and will invest in a knock off mercedes scanner. Anyone have one that can either talk some sense into me or provide experience keeping in mind I wont be taking anything to a mechanic unless it requires a really expensive mercedes only tool...
