300SD Diesel Fuel Smell in trunk

I have a strong odor of diesel fuel in my 83 SD's trunk; it's even damp on the right side with fuel.
I wonder where it might be coming from. I had some sandbags in the area behind the wheels and wonder if a hose got pulled
off? Any help appreciated.
