|
freeze out plug how 2 on 1994 e320? any1
Question mine went bad. Ordered new one are these screwed on 2 the block or tapped in?......thank you

There pressed in except maybe last one at rear on exhaust side , it may be screwed in if it has a nut formed its screwed, if it is screwed you usually have to chisel It out

Like a penny in size and domed ,not flat in shape .In the block it will have a grove around the hole it fits in to .Make sure its nice and clean in the slot or the new pkug wont seat .After your happy with the grove it sits in possition the new plug with the dome on the outside .With a piece of round wood knock it in the midle it will spring outwards to site in the grove in the block. This is the old type you may have plugs that have shoulder on ,i think these just push in with a little sealer. I am sure others can help with the answer further.

I ordered from dealer and they didnt know if it was screw on or push in....the one I got there looks like it has a hex head in middle but its so rusted I cant tell...hopefully dealer got me right 1. Will keep posted ty

The threaded one is not the freeze plug ,thats for draining off your coolant.Thats if it as a thread on it ,and they do come with o ring.Also if its leaking it might only need an o ring

I already replaced the one you mention its called cylinder crankcase coolant drain plug its small. The freeze plug is next to that plug its threaded and has 22 mm nut in the middle.my car also has small nonthreaded freeze plugs. As for the issue I have I cannot remove my leaking freeze plug because the 22 mm hex is corroded causing the leak and I cant turn it, so its off 2 the mechanic to spend a good amount of money.....I tried hitting with flathead screwdriver and mallet but no luck.

They dont thread freeze plugs .If it had a tread in it it would never blow out if it frezzes up .The large one is to drain the system off with hexiginal head on fror a spanner.

heater plug
Just like to say the item your working on is not a freeze plug.Its for installation of block heater .You will have 7 plugs in all . They do use this one to drain off the block . On install you should use a little sealer or grease ,even copper slip to make it easy to remove next time. Thats if you did not damage the threads in side ,dont leave the o ring off .....Have none of you ever thought about a workshop manual. ... Even this site may have information on this job your doing .Click on TECH INFO on top of the page .

I messed some of the threads up. Put new peice in but its still leaking slowly. I put some shellac gasket maker during reinstall. Indy I called said hes done 20 of those plugs and has cracked 3 blocks in the process because of how difficult it was to remove. He advised me to try more sealant.. pain of a job this plug is
