Coolant leak around transmission pan area
Hi!
My 85 380SE got the coolant leak around the transmission pan area. It's leaking slowly and I need to refill 1 quart of the coolant each week. It's hard to see where it's leaking in the area and it's only leaking when I am driving. Is there any hose there that might have broken and leaking? Is this repair a do it yourself task? Thanks for your help. Lin 85 380SE Austin, TX |
Lin:
Possibly the heater core is leaking and the coolant is running out the evaporator drain tubes, which are located above the transmission, like in the front area of the transmission/driveshaft tunnel. This would not be a good job for a beginning DIY'er to attempt. Even a well-seasoned and equipped DIY'er should have at least slightly sweaty hands if contemplating doing this job, the whole dash needs to be removed. I recommend having a coolant pressure test done to determine if this is the source of the leak. Gilly |
