'98 C-class Convenience/Comfort Module Location?
 

Hello,

I've searched extensively and can say for sure it is not where it's supposed to be: in the trunk sitting in a channel outboard from the battery, or in the fuse box under the hood. Attached is a picture illustrating the fuse box mounting location. I don't have a picture, but can also say it's not underneath the panel on the floor in the trunk just behind the back seat either. Are there any other locations they put these across the years for the W202?

My Bentley manual shows the module to the right of the battery under the rail and makes no mention of year. Did you pull the battery back? I know on my 97 C280 it is there, though 98 and up got a more complicated system with much of the stuff running through CAN bus.

I wonder if this module went away since each door is supposed to have a CAN module?

What is the problem you are trying to fix?

I'm trying to fix a repeated failure of the front windows, sunroof, mirrors, seats, and A/C. I do have individual door modules, and have changed one of those, and experimented with pulling individual fuses to no avail. The only thing that resets everything (except A/C, which has never worked unless you jump 12V to the clutch), is to pull the battery cable or one of the large fuses at the fuse box. So I've been told, the 'Comfort Module' ties everything together. The part number for this, 202 820 092 6, is used by many different chassis for a good number of years based on what I can find on these. Honestly though, information is difficult to come by on these, and there are NO scan tools aside from the dealership's that can read them. Lots of errors in the Bentley manuals as well.

Nothing under the seat I'm afraid, as per post #9 in the thread linked by mpolli. I wonder if I simply do not have a convenience module at all, because I have door modules, and that cars that do not have the door modules have the convenience module. Two different systems used depending on the market where the car was sold, the year of production, or other factors. Maybe? But that wouldn't explain the systemic failure...

So, I think you need to ignore whoever told you about the Convenience Module as I don't think the car has one.
