power steering filter
 

When changing the power steering filter and fluid, are there any seals/gaskets that should be changed. Also, my MB manual calls for A/T fluid, is this the same as the power steering fluid that is being sold by Febi Bilstein?

The power steering gearboxes take ATF. The some of the newer cars call for MB P/S fluid. The E-Class cars 1996-present take either MB p/s fluid, part #000 989 88 03, or one of the approved Dextron III ATFs. The CLK-Class also can take either fluid. The rest of MB cars require MB p/s fluid or p/s fluid from Pentosin. Again though, for 1983 ATF will be fine. Your owner's manual will list what is to be used. If you want the list of approved ATFs, I have that. I just received the "Factory Approved Service Products" list from MB.
